Mallory Smith

Mallory Smith graduated, as a scholarship recipient, from The University of Arizona with a Bachelor’s of Fine Arts in Dance.  At the School of Dance’s triple-tracked program, which consists of ballet, modern, and jazz, she excelled under many prestigious professors guidance.  She studied ballet technique with Melissa Lowe, Jim Clouser, and Elizabeth George; modern technique with Amy Ernst and Douglas Nielsen; and jazz technique with Sam Watson, Susan Quinn Williams, and Michael Williams.  There she gained studio and performance experience, as well as, an academic curriculum of dance history and culture, biomechanics, kinesiology, choreography, music forms and literature, production, and career planning.  She performed renowned staff and graduate choreography at the School of Dance’s Stevie Eller Theatre.

Mallory was a member of ASH Contemporary Company, under the direction of Braham Logan Crane, where they won the Gold Leo’s choreography competition at Gus Giordano’s Jazz Dance World Congress.  She also performed at the International Dance Fesitval in New York City and at the Painted Bride Arts Center in Philadelphia, PA.

Mallory was also a member of American Dance Company, directed by Mark Marino, where she traveled and performed in Italy, Spain and the Czech Republic, at the Prix de Italia International Competition and the Prague Festival International Competition.  Her performances also include “Wired” in Pittsburgh, PA and at the International Dance Festival in New York City.

Mallory attended Maryland Youth Ballet’s early release program where she studied pointe, ballet, and modern under the instruction of Tensia Fonseca, Michelle Lees, Harriet Moncure Williams, Julie Miles, Rhodie Jorgenson, and Lucy Bowen McCauley.  She spent three summers at the Kirov Academy of Ballet’s summer intensive learning from Mme. Morkovina and Mme. Sizova.  She studied jazz and lyrical under Michelle Sarson at Worldgate Dance Studio.  She has worked with many other elite choreographers and master teachers, including; Billy Larson, Richard Havey, Jeff Hancock, Eddy O’ Campo, Birute Barodicaite, Gus Giordano, Frank Hatchett, Barry Lather, Dennis Caspary, Karen Hebert, Lisa Giarratano, Joe Tremaine, and Mia Michaels.

Mallory began her journey as a member of the Dancensations family, under the training of Pat Hawkes and Gloria Hampton, studying all forms of dance, to include jazz, lyrical, tap and character.  She studied ballet and pointe under the instruction of Troy D. Brown, broadway jazz and lyrical under Cynthia Amirgholi-Paul, tap under Melanie Rainville-Thurston, and gymnastics under Val Truguding.  As a showgroup member she traveled and performed at various shows, venues and competitions proudly exhibiting the Dancensations name.  Mallory is excited to be teaching, for her fifteenth year, along side such a talented and distinguished staff.
