Class Descriptions & Attire

Acro: Encourages coordination, spatial awareness, and fine and gross motor skills. Students will increase their strength and flexibility and learn a variety of tumbling and gymnastics skills. This class is centered on fundamental acrobatic technique to increase flexibility, strength, balance, coordination, endurance, timing, body awareness, self-discipline, and confidence.
Class Attire: any color leotard, tights or legging, with hair pulled back away from face in a ponytail or bun.

  • level I/II/III: Skills learned in this level include push up to bridge, pre-cartwheel, “L” handstand, somersault/forward roll ending in standing up position, backwards roll, standing down to bridge, bridge to standing, bridge kick-over to standing, front limber (handstand to bridge to standing), one-handed cartwheel, able to walk on feet in bridge, both right and left side cartwheels, flexibility – working on splits (right, left and center), cobra stretch with back arch.
  • level IV/V/VI: Required skills for enrollment include both front and back walkovers, can hold handstand for unassisted, able to hold bridge, acro Arabian, handstand to chest roll out, side aerial at minimum, back handspring or back roundoff back handspring, both one-handed (right & left) front and back walkovers, toe rise, flexibility – full splits (right, left and center) plus oversplits, can touch feet to head in cobra back arch stretch.
Adult Tap: This popular class is geared towards adults with little to no experience in tap who want to enjoy a structured weekly class to explore rhythm, movement, and sound as expression with a focus on technique as well as choreography.
Class Attire: Any color dance or athletic wear, black tie tap shoes. Hair pulled back away from face.
Ballet: We offer 4 levels levels of classical ballet, pointe: Level I, II, Teen, and Company Ballet. Classes focus on ballet technique, proper body alignment, terminology, and musicality. Ballet is the foundation of many dance forms and provides grace, poise, and technique needed to be proficient in all other areas of dance. Ballet classes will help dancers with posture, flexibility, fitness, balance, self-discipline, and self-confidence. Students will build off of the five positions, master plié variations and tendus, among other level-appropriate skills. Dancers will use both the barre and center floor.
Class Attire: Black leotard, pink ballet tights, ballet shoes (split-sole preferred), with hair in a low bun.
Broadway Jazz/Musical Theater: Founded on jazz technique with a focus on Broadway performances and genres, this class introduces dance forms found in musical theater, incorporating elements of ballet, jazz, and modern.
Class Attire: Any color leotard, dance shorts or leggings, tan jazz shoes, hair pulled back away from face in a ponytail or bun.
Combo I: Suitable for ages 3-4. Introduces the basic steps of ballet and tap. Shoes for both disciplines are required. Combination class incorporates time for tap, ballet, creative movement and dance activities to build flexibility and coordination, allowing some time to change shoes.  The instructor uses games, stories, and songs to teach balance, rhythm, movement, coordination, and basic steps. Classes continue to build on following direction, listening skills, body awareness, motor skills, rhythm, coordination, balance and imagination. Class Attire: any color leotard, tights, leggings, ballet and tap shoes, with hair in a ponytail or bun.

Combo II: Suitable for ages 4-5. Introduces the basic steps of ballet, tap, and jazz. Shoes for both disciplines are required. Combination class incorporates time for jazz and ballet, creative movement and dance activities to enhance flexibility and coordination, allowing for some time to change shoes. This class introduces fundamental principles of ballet and positions of the feet and arms, proper posture, placement and body alignment are introduced. Students learn age appropriate warm ups and stretches. Center work includes basic skills such as skipping, hopping, jumping and leaping.
Class Attire: any color leotard, tights, leggings, ballet and tap shoes, with hair in a ponytail or bun.

Contemporary/Lyrical: This class may combine the techniques of modern dance, ballet, and jazz. Contemporary combines ballet and modern techniques with musical and emotional expression with a strong focus on modern techniques (contractions and release, off-center balances and suspension) as well as musicality and self-expression Recommended for with some prior dance experience, particularly in ballet. This class challenges dancers to use choreography and movement to interpret music and express emotion.

Creative Movement: This class is a perfect introduction to music & movement! A creative movement class suitable for ages 2-3 taken without an adult. Classes focus on following direction, listening skills, body awareness, motor skills, rhythm, coordination, balance, and imagination. This fun, interactive class will build their self-confidence to help little dancers to prepare for a combo class.
Class Attire: Any color leotard, tights, leggings, with ballet or soft dance shoe.

Gym: Gymnasts participate in vault, bars, beam and floor. Activities include skills that incorporate strength, flexibility, coordination and balance. Gymnasts will experience instruction on balance beam, vault, un-even bars, trampoline and tumbling! Gymnastics skills include rolls, handstand, cartwheel, bridges, and walkovers, as well as leaps and jumps.
Class Attire: any color leotard or unitard, with hair pulled back from face in a ponytail.

Hip Hop: Hip Hop is a street style of dance performed to hip hop music and incorporates a variety of old and new urban, street and pop dance styles. The dancing represents body movements that go with the beat and rhythm of hip hop music. Using everything from today’s Hip-Hop, R&B, and Old School, this class covers original elements of Hip-Hop, but also focuses on building technical skills, freestyle ability, and mastering hip-hop choreography. Students are challenged to improve their coordination, musicality, and groove.
Class Attire: any color leotard, tights, leggings, or dance wear, athletic shoe or dance sneaker with hair in a ponytail pulled away from face.

Jazz: Jazz class will focus on learning proper dance technique such as isolations of the body, improving performance quality and developing complex rhythms and patterns. Students will be exposed to various styles of jazz such as Broadway, Street, Funk, and Contemporary to help develop a well rounded dancer. Classes emphasize musicality and body alignment, conditioning, stretch and strengthening, rhythm and stylization as well as fun and innovative choreography. Introduces dancers to the jazz genre and basic technical skills (i.e. jazz walk, chaine turns, single pirouettes, jetes and kicks). Classes are high energy and progress with warm-up, floor crossings, and combinations. Emphasis is placed on developing coordination, rhythmic awareness, individual expression, and flexibility.

​​Leaps & Turns: Appropriate for beginning dancers, or those looking to work on the basic technical skills. This class focuses on the breakdown of foundational skills such as splits, single pirouettes, chaine and pique turns, jetes and extensions. Across the floor combinations and center choreography will be taught to encourage utilization of proper technique.

Pointe/Pre-pointe: Dancers who have taken ballet for several years may be recommended to take pre-pointe and eventually placed on pointe. Pre-pointe and pointe will help dancers to build strength and alignment, further refining their ballet skills. These classes are by placement only.
Class Attire: Black leotard, pink footed ballet tights, pink ballet shoes for pre-pointe, pink pointe shoes for pointe. Hair in a low bun.

Tap: Tap is a form of dance characterized by using the sounds of tap shoes striking the floor as a form of percussion.  Students learn the basics to more advanced tap techniques in a fun environment where noise is encouraged. The core of the class will focus on the development of basic technical skills (shuffles, paradiddles, flaps, pickups, cramp-rolls, etc.), as well as the ear, or ability to understand music.
Class Attire: any color leotard, tights or legging, black tap shoe with hair pulled back away from face in a ponytail or bun.
Tech: Class focuses on strength and flexibility to perform skills successfully with proper technique. In the class, students will be challenged in conditioning, flexibility, balance, and coordination to prepare them for leaps, turns and other dance related tricks.
